The European Society for Opinion and Marketing Research (ESOMAR) is the world organisation for enabling better research into markets, consumers and societies. ESOMAR promotes the value of market and opinion research in illuminating real issues and bringing about effective decision-making on a global level.

ESOMAR has established code or 'codes of ethical practice' and s for its members and actively advocates self-regulation by promoting industry standards and the worldwide code of practice. All individual members agree to abide by these standards and codes of ethical practice while conducting telephone, face-to-face or online surveys.
ESOMAR has developed the International Standard (ISO 20252) norm for market, opinion and social research for market research. ESOMAR's Code of Ethical Practice has been adopted by more than 100 national market research associations and by all individual members.
Founded in 1948, ESOMAR began as a regional association within Europe. Currently, with almost 5000 individual members in over 100 countries, ESOMAR’s membership brings together professionals in market and opinion research, marketing, advertising, business, public affairs and media from across the world.
Active in almost 80 countries, ESOMAR representatives are dedicated professionals who serve as local ambassadors, liaising between ESOMAR and their local constituents. Representatives promote the aims of ESOMAR on a local and regional level to support the use of opinion and market research for the benefit of business and society at large.
